Everyone’s Journey Is Different 🧗🏻♂️
I feel as humans we naturally find compelling reasons to compare ourselves to others and expect more from ourselves. For example, while you are a B+ student you compare yourself to your friend who is an A+ student but is also very outgoing and is involved in many clubs. You look at your friend and wonder why you can’t get as good grades as him? You wish you were as social as he was. However, your friend isn’t nearly as athletic as you are and can barely finish a mile by the time you’d run a mile and a half. While you’re generally tidy, he’s very disorganized and is usually the one asking around for lost items. The problem that arises when we compare ourselves to others is that we tend to do it unfairly. When we look only at the positive aspects of others it paints an unrealistic expectation of ourselves and can lead to self-doubt. Instead of looking at the positive attributes of other people and feeding self-defeating thoughts, utilize those admirations as motivations to improve. I’d encourage to even make it a healthy competition! This leads me to something crucial, I’ve learned throughout my time as a computer science major, which is that everyone’s journey is different.
